Forgiveness is Not Required
A poem about sexual assault and reclaiming agency

forgiveness is not required
forgiveness is not required
we don’t owe
them
absolution for their violence
why do ‘they’ keep telling
me to forgive him for ruining
me, shattering my memories
because my brain thinks
it’s safer to be lost
than to remember
what
*he
did to me
i do not
never will
never have (i hope you suffer and rot)
owe you my forgiveness
and
absolution
