So true! I've also encountered this in relation to disability too. From what I see and understand, racism and ableism are painfully interwoven in many ways.

Like, the notion of the inspirational disabled person that 'overcomes' their disabled reads to me exactly the way some white people write about the inspirational black person who 'overcomes' racism. Both are total bullshit and both are used to let people feel like they aren't responsible for stepping out of their privileged comfort zones to create a kinder, more just world.
