This has been my experience on Etsy.

… currently a lot of sellers on Etsy… like 4.1 million. That’s a lot. And that number keeps growing. When you open an Etsy shop, you’re a little fish in a gigantic pond, which means there’s a lot of competition for your products. Basically, this means it’s unlikely that buyers will find your products when they search on Etsy.
